Frusenex is a loop diuretic (water pill) that helps your body excrete excess salt rather than absorbing it, leading to increased salt excretion in urine. It is prescribed for managing fluid retention (edema) in patients suffering from congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disorders like nephrotic syndrome. Additionally, this medication is utilized for treating high blood pressure (hypertension).
Frusenex will increase your urination frequency, and you might experience dehydration quickly. Adhere to your doctor’s guidance regarding the use of potassium supplements and ensure adequate salt and potassium intake in your diet.
To monitor for any adverse effects of Frusenex, regular blood tests will be necessary. It may also be required to evaluate your kidney or liver function. Be sure to keep all scheduled appointments.
Frusenex may occasionally be taken as a single dose, so you might not have a consistent dosing routine. If you're taking it regularly and miss a dose, consume it as soon as you remember. If you suspect an overdose of Frusenex, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include ringing in the ears, diminished appetite, weakness, dizziness, confusion, light-headedness, or fainting.
Potential side effects include dry mouth, increased thirst, nausea, vomiting; feelings of weakness, drowsiness, restlessness, or light-headedness; irregular or rapid heartbeat; muscle pain or weakness; reduced urination or inability to urinate; a rash that is red, blistering, and peeling; hearing impairment; and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, stomach pain, reduced appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
